Honoring New Jersey Companies That Care

MORE THAN 200 New Jersey business leaders attended the Fifth Annual Companies that Care Awards, co-presented by the Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey (CIANJ) and COMMERCE.

Held at Nanina’s in the Park in Belleville, New Jersey, on March 20, 2018, the event recognized companies for their charitable and philanthropic programs that care for veterans; help children; feed the hungry; shelter the homeless; volunteer to help the needy; raise money for charities; protect the environment; and support employees and their families during emergencies.

Top honors were earned by Wakefern Food Corp., who was named the 2018 Extraordinary Good Works recipient. Through its ShopRite Partners in Caring program, Wakefern, donates $3 million annually to Feeding America food banks in the communities where ShopRite has stores and customers.

ShopRite associates volunteer and donate food to pantries and soup kitchens and engage customers in a “Round Up Your Change” register donation program. Since 1999, Wakefern’s donations total $45 million, with more than a million pounds of turkeys and many millions of pounds of food donated to local Feeding America food banks.

Wakefern Food Corp. Manager of Community Relations Christine Magyarits accepted the top honor on behalf of all the employees who make the ShopRite Partners in Caring program successful and a special gift for those in need.
