AmeriHealth NJ and Radiology Consultants of New Jersey Reach Agreement on New Contract; Implements Quality Program

Cranbury, NJ – AmeriHealth NJ announced today that it has reached an agreement on a new, three-year contract with Radiology Consultants of New Jersey (RADCON), effective July 2012. The agreement includes an innovative quality initiative to improve the overall quality of patient care, by making health care more patient-centered, reliable, accessible and safe.

RADCON, a regional leader in diagnostic imaging, provides high-quality, cost-effective diagnostic imaging services through a network of 263 radiology providers in 46 imaging centers within the southern New Jersey geographic areas of Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Monmouth, Ocean and Salem counties.

Under the agreement, the RADCON network will share information that will improve quality of care through the establishment of goals, benchmarks and a series of quality metrics.

“We are proud to collaborate with RADCON on this new program, which is geared toward delivering high quality service at an affordable cost,” said Paul Portsmore, vice president of health services for AmeriHealth New Jersey. “As reimbursement gradually moves toward being based on outcomes and performance, it’s essential for payers and providers to work together to ensure access to the highest standard of care, which is what our members deserve.”

“We are very pleased to participate in this quality initiative,” said Dr. Robert M. Glassberg, president of RADCON. “It is a collaborative effort, one that will enhance the quality, affordability and access to health care for our patients.”

Rothstein Kass Co-Authors “A Practical Guide to Capital Markets: Participants, Instruments and Compliance”

New York, NY – Experts at Rothstein Kass, a leading national professional services provider, have co-authored “A Practical Guide to Capital Markets: Participants, Instruments and Compliance,” published by Thomson Reuters Westlaw. Joe Pacello, a Financial Services Tax Principal, and Richard Bloom, National Leader of Trusts and Estates at Rothstein Kass, have teamed with lead author Abe Mastbaum, Tax and Capital Markets Counsel at Barton LLP. The book is intended as an introductory-level guide for students, new employees at asset management companies and other financial institutions, and anyone interested in financial markets and instruments.

“At Rothstein Kass, we recognize that a truly insightful thought leadership platform is built on the ability to bring clarity to dynamic and increasingly complex market conditions. For more than half a century, we have earned the trust of our clients by delivering exceptional service while also helping them to keep pace with change,” said Mr. Pacello. “Today, the enhanced regulatory and compliance focus directed toward the asset management sector has caused uncertainty that threatens to negate the intended benefits. On behalf of our firm, it was a privilege to work with renowned capital markets expert Abe Mastbaum in creating a comprehensive yet accessible guide. We believe that it is through collaboration that best practices emerge and are proud to have had the opportunity to contribute.”

Among other topics, “A Practical Guide to Capital Markets: Participants, Instruments and Compliance,” addresses:

  • Capital markets participants and dynamics
  • Regulators and the scope of securities regulation
  • An overview of various financial products, including stocks, bonds and derivatives
  • Pricing and arbitrage relationships
  • The mechanics of trading on exchanges and in the OTC markets
  • Tax and wealth transfer issues facing investors

“When seeking to understand capital markets, many ultra-wealthy individuals and families mistakenly concentrate exclusively on asset management components. However, as recent events have reminded, investment decisions made without consideration of the tax consequences can quickly create disparities between long-term family objectives and available resources. Adopting an integrated wealth management approach brings financial, lifestyle, and generational issues into alignment, allowing the family to focus on enjoying the benefits of wealth while maximizing investment returns,” said Mr. Bloom. “This sort of approach can be particularly beneficial in transferring wealth to younger generations or pursuing the sale of a family business.”

U.S. News Ranks HackensackUMC #4 in New York Metro Area and the #1 Hospital in New Jersey

Washington, DC – HackensackUMC is pleased to announce that it has been ranked as the number one hospital in New Jersey, and one of the New York metro area’s Top Four hospitals, according to the annual U.S. News & World Report annual Best Hospitals rankings released today. In addition, HackensackUMC received nine national rankings in: Cancer; Cardiology & Heart Surgery; Ear, Nose & Throat; Gastroenterology; Geriatrics; Neurology & Neurosurgery; Orthopedics; Urology; and the Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital ranking as one of the Top 25 Best Children’s Hospitals for neurology and neurosurgery in the U.S. News & World Report’s 2012-13 Best Children’s Hospitals. The medical center was also listed as high-performing in the New York metro area in: Diabetes & Endocrinology, Gynecology, Nephrology, and Pulmonology.

“What an honor it is to receive this recognition from a prestigious healthcare ratings agency such as U.S. News & World Report,” said Robert C. Garrett, president and chief executive officer of HackensackUMC. “To be placed among some of the finest hospitals in the country is truly a compliment and affirmation of the type of care provided at our medical center. Ranked among the New York metro area’s elite top four hospitals – which includes New York City, Westchester County, Long Island and northern New Jersey – proves that the most advanced care and treatment options are available on both sides of the Hudson River.”

This year’s Best Hospitals, the 23rd annual edition, showcases more than 720 of the nation’s roughly 5,000 hospitals. Fewer than 150 are nationally ranked in at least one of 16 medical specialties. The rest of the recognized hospitals met a standard of performance nearly as demanding in one or more specialties.

The hospital rankings, said U.S. News Health Rankings Editor Avery Comarow, are like a GPS-type aid to help steer patients to hospitals with strong skills in the procedures and medical conditions that present the biggest challenges. “All of these hospitals are the kinds of medical centers that should be on your list when you need the best care,” said Comarow. “They are where other hospitals send the toughest cases.”

The rankings were published by U.S. News in collaboration with RTI International, a research organization based in Research Triangle Park, N.C. Highlights of the 2012-13 rankings will appear in the U.S. News Best Hospitals 2013 guidebook, to go on sale in August.
